Yellowtail & tuna hotspot
False Bay is one of the Cape's most diverse fishing grounds, offering everything from reef fishing to offshore tuna action. The bay's warmer waters (courtesy of the Agulhas Current) attract a variety of species throughout the year.
The deeper sections of False Bay, from 30m to 150m, hold excellent populations of Cape Yellowtail, particularly around the numerous pinnacles and reef structures. During summer, Longfin Tuna push into the bay following the warm water, providing exciting light tackle action.
The bay is also home to excellent Kob and Geelbek fishing, particularly around the sandy bottoms and estuary mouths. False Bay offers the unique advantage of often being fishable when the Atlantic side is blown out by the southeaster.
