Premier tuna grounds
The Cape Canyon is one of South Africa's most legendary fishing destinations. This underwater canyon begins approximately 30 nautical miles offshore and drops from 200m to over 500m, creating the perfect conditions for pelagic species.
The canyon's unique topography forces nutrient-rich cold water upward, attracting baitfish which in turn draw massive schools of Yellowfin Tuna, Longfin Tuna, and Dorado. During peak season (November to May), catches of 20-50kg Yellowfin are common, with fish over 70kg taken regularly.
We employ a variety of techniques here including trolling with skirted lures, live baiting with mackerel, and chunking when fish are located. The deep blue water and explosive surface action make this a bucket-list destination for serious anglers.
